(Just one moment)

Last blogpost of the year from Super 8mm camera expert for hire

Wow – 2022 has been an amazing year, but I’ve not shot as much, or blogged as much about the Super 8mm format as I’d have liked to have done.  So, when 2023 arrives I hope to spend more time on this website (and working with Super8mm).

2023 has some interesting Super 8mm related things bubbling up already – Steven Spielberg has a new film coming out based on his own youth – and his love for filmmaking which started with the 8mm format.

There’s a smashing looking documentary called ‘Beyond the Bolex to catch too – which celebrates one of the great camera brands of the past – cameras which worked with 8mm film and 16mm film.

And local to me – there’s a film doing the rounds called ‘A Bunch of Amateurs’ about a cine film club filled with amateur filmmakers – working on video and digital now – but they will have started out with 8mm and Super 8mm.

Personally,   I’ve been really busy this year with my of script writer for hire and UK script consultant work, but beside that I managed to  release my third horror feature film (in as many years) When The Earth Gives Up The Dead which is free to view on my YouTube Channel – so why not join the tons of new subscribers that came with it?

‘When the Earth Gives up the Dead (2022)‘ is my third low budget feature horror feature film in as many years and part of a trilogy that includes Markham and At the Mountains of Madness– I’m really proud that all three films feature some use of Super 8mm or Pro8mm film – this footage is used as title sequence footage or as part of dream sequences which feature in all three films, next year I’ll be blogging more about my latest feature film – ‘H.P. Lovecraft’s The Shadow Over Innsmouth (2023) which I shot in late November / Early December this year – and yes, you guessed it –it also features a sequence shot on Pro8mm Super8mm stock – I’m currently waiting for the scans to come back from L.A.

So, more 8mm in 2023 – that’s my plan – have a great Christmas regular readers and all Super8mm shootists.

Matthew Cooper is a Super 8mm camera expert for hire and is hugely knowledgeable and enthusiastic about all things Super 8mm.  He’s also the director of the rubber reality horror feature film ‘Markham which was released in 2020, his second feature film as director ‘At The Mountains Of Madness’ hit the screen in 2021. His third film as a director ‘When The Earth Gives Up The Dead’ was released on Halloween 2022 – you can watch all three films for free on Mat’s YouTube Channel

You can find out more about  Matthew’s work as a director here or you can find some of his broadcast credits on the IMDb.

In another life Matthew was a BAFTA shortlisted script writer for hire and UK script consultant for over 20 years. He’s written for most of the UK soaps, including writing award-winning episodes of Emmerdale, EastEnders, Hollyoaks and Family Affairs.
